FlipTheFinger is a satirical entertainment project based in Norway for people over 16. Taking part is voluntary. A gesture says nothing about your identity, nationality or ethnicity. The site and statistics are for entertainment, without a warranty of availability or accuracy.
The site may run in preview, local demo or a mode with registration enabled. What happens depends on the mode described below. Counts represent actions, not unique people.
Preview and local demo
When the site is in public preview, choosing a country, optional place and gesture updates a synthetic count in your browser tab. It sends no registration request and saves no form entries in browser storage or cookies. Reloading resets the count. The local demo keeps simulated counts in server memory; local database tests use synthetic counts.
For public modes, Cloudflare hosts the site and processes ordinary connection data, which can include your IP address and requested pages or images. A public share page or image path can show the selected illustration. Preview mode has no registration database, Turnstile or count submission.
When registration is enabled
A valid submission in any environment where registration is enabled sends the selected illustration, country, optional place and a Turnstile security token to the service, which updates aggregate counts.
The database stores aggregate counts, not a record for each person or action. Country and illustration counts are grouped separately from place counts. Place is optional free text, normalized and limited to 60 Unicode characters. Do not enter names, addresses or other personal details. Place totals are grouped by country and place, including an unspecified-place group and older actions from before place recording began. The public breakdown is withheld for a country if any non-empty place, unspecified-place or historical group has fewer than 20 actions. This reduces simple deductions from small groups; it does not guarantee anonymity, and changes over time may still allow inferences.
Counts remain until the operator resets or deletes them; there is no automatic expiry. The system has no accounts, individual contribution history or app database of IP addresses. For registration, Cloudflare processes connection data and Turnstile information for hosting and bot protection. An IP-derived rate-limit key is used to limit repeated requests; neither it nor the Turnstile token is stored in the app database. Cloudflare may process or retain technical data under its own practices. We do not promise that providers keep no logs or use no cookies.
Country suggestions and sharing
A suggested country may come from Cloudflare connection geolocation. You can change it; it may not be your home country. Sharing on Facebook is optional. Choosing it opens a public illustration link at Meta, which handles the visit under its own terms and privacy practices. The link contains the illustration variant, not your form entries. No Facebook post is automatically published, and opening a share link never records an action. External social preview requests may also be made when a link is shared.
Other information
Advertising and analytics scripts are inactive. The site’s build setting controls whether its clearly labelled affiliate links are shown. If shown, they are fixed links to Zazzle; this site makes no Zazzle request before you choose a link. The link opens without a referrer and contains the site’s affiliate identifier, but no country, place, gesture or other form entry. We may earn a commission if you buy through a link. Zazzle then receives your request and may process connection information under its own terms and privacy practices. The product listing is by an independent creator and does not imply that Zazzle or the creator sponsors or endorses this satire.
Cloudflare provides hosting and security services; its privacy policy and Turnstile privacy addendum describe its processing. Emailing us sends your message through SimpleLogin and the receiving email provider. Please include only details needed for your enquiry. We do not state an unverified provider retention period.
